For Immediate Release

VISALIA, CA, September 15th, 2020 -- This month, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sequoias will be hosting their first ever College Night Webinar Series. The event will be held on two separate occasions, Wednesday, September 23rd from 5:00PM–6:30PM and Friday, September 25th from 5:00PM–6:30PM. College Night is meant to educate students on the requirements of college, familiarize them with different college paths, and remind them of the importance of putting effort into their schooling. This event is free to attend and open to the public. Those interested can register for the webinars at: www.bgcsequoias.org/collegenight

This event has been organized by BGCS Area Director Cinthia Ibarra and her good friend Environmental Planner Victoria Chung. Many BGCS Club members will be attending the College Night Webinars as it is a precursor to upcoming programs such as Career Launch and Diplomas2Degrees. Both of these are Boys & Girls Club of America programs for members that promote the importance of higher education, encourage career exploration, and prepare for the workforce.

Over the course of the 2 webinars, audience members will hear from 10 panelists who are all professionals from a variety of industries. Panelists will discuss their experiences with selecting a university, majors & career trajectories, finance/student loan management, DACA, living arrangements, extracurriculars & time management, fraternities & sororities, studying abroad, and more.

On Wednesday, September 23rd, all the panelists will be professionals who took the community college transfer path—meaning they attended a community college then transferred to a four-year university. On Friday, September 25th, all the panelists will be professionals who attended a four-year university straight out of high school. This differentiation is meant to help give young students insight and perspective on the different college paths available to them.

Students of all ages are encouraged to join the webinar with their families and participate by asking questions.

Those interested can register for the webinars at: www.bgcsequoias.org/collegenight
