STRATHMORE, CA, July 2nd, 2021 -- This year, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sequoias’ Annual Strathmore Love Our Kids 5K Fun Run was held virtually. Though this event was not in-person, loyal community members and the following sponsors joined forces as usual to raise a total of $5,600 for the Strathmore Boys & Girls Club: Central Valley Auto Transport, Family HealthCare Network, Ian Duncan MD Orthopedic Sports Surgery, Mangini and Assoc, Pine, Pedroncelli, and Aguilar, Starr and Yonok Warson, Carroll’s Tires, Gail Grasmick, Glen and Christina Catalina, and Martin's Tire and Auto Service.

Participants ran the 5K by registering online and then running or walking a self-selected 5K route. There were many participants, including several long-time friends of the Club, Strathmore Club members, and even a family reunion incorporating the run into their festivities.

Strathmore Boys & Girls Club reopened for in-person services on September 8th of last year, and before that, the Club provided services to local youth virtually via Zoom. Strathmore Club members have enjoyed being back in-person for the summer, participating in a variety of programming, staying active with recreation time and spending time outdoors in their recently renovated garden—all the while spending time with their friends in a safe place. Strathmore families can register for a Club membership online at bgcsequoias.org/registration or by filling out an application at the Club. Memberships cost only $15 per year. Strathmore Club’s summer hours are Monday through Friday, 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Gail Grasmick, co-chair of the Strathmore Fun Run event-planning team, explained why she is an adamant supporter of BGCS, saying, "Being able to be part of an organization, such as the Boys & Girls Club, that focuses on the success of our community's youth is extremely important to me. As a teacher for over 30 years, I saw a need for a place where our youth could participate in enriching activities after school and during summer vacation. The Club provides the opportunity for our youth to participate in a variety of projects from community service to maintaining the Club's garden to exploring their creative sides through art and the spoken and written word. All of these activities assist our youth in developing into caring, intelligent, and self-confident adults. I feel that it is our responsibility to provide as many positive opportunities as possible for our youth, so they can develop the skills necessary to become the leaders of tomorrow."
