For Immediate Release

VISALIA, CA, JANUARY 13th, 2022 -- Dick’s Sporting Goods Foundation has recently donated $15,000 to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sequoias’ physical literacy program, Triple Play: Daily Challenges. Triple Play is a national Boys & Girls Club program that promotes the importance of physical activity, proper nutrition, and overall wellness through three components: the body, mind, and soul.

Daily Challenges is the “body” component of the Triple Play program. The goal is for members to increase their physical capabilities, build confidence through learning sports skills and enjoying being active, and gain a motivation for physical activity that will follow them through life. Healthy Habits is the “mind” component, helping members learn about nutrition, health behaviors, and health messaging. Social Recreation is the “soul” component, focusing on social and emotional development. In this portion, members are equipped with the skills needed to regulate emotions, create healthy relationships, and make responsible decisions.

Brian Alamano, Dick’s Sporting Goods’ Central Valley Community Marketing Manager, explains why Dick’s supports Triple Play: Daily Challenges. “It’s simple…our mission is to inspire and enable youth sport participation. Sports build character, increase confidence, motivate kids to stay in school and aim for higher education; teaching life lessons that extend well beyond the playing field, but not everyone has the same access to play sports. We believe that the Triple Play Challenge program perfectly aligned with our mission to provide access to sport, and physical activities, that play an important part in developing a young person’s abilities, confidence, and character. We are beyond excited to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sequoias and continue to serve our youth in the Central Valley community!”

In practice, Triple Play: Daily Challenges consists of regular participation in a fun, age-appropriate physical activity for a minimum amount of time. These activities fall under the categories of aerobic, muscle-strengthening, and bone-strengthening, and are typically related to team sports, individual sports, interactive games, and familiar exercises. Club staff create and adapt Daily Challenges according to their member’s interests, creating an engaging, exciting, and overall positive environment.

The Visalia, Exeter, Woodlake, Farmersville, Ivanhoe, Tulare, and Strathmore Clubs will be running Triple Play: Daily Challenges from now until May 2022. For more information, please contact the Club’s Unit Director. Contact information can be found at bgcsequoias.org/ourclubs.
